DO NOT rent Southland Tales. I am not much of a movie snob, but this movie was the biggest piece of dogshit I have ever seen! So much so, that I feel like I have to spread the word to all of the movie renters I can find. I thought it might be bad, but I had no clue what I was in for. Southland Tales is the new straight to DVD joint written and directed by Richard Kelly, who brought us Donnie Darko. I liked Donnie Darko so I thought I’d give Southland Tales a whirl, though I should have known better since Richard Kelly did write the screenplay for another cocksucker of a movie called Domino. I thought this review from Variety summed it up pretty well, so read it if you don’t take my word on this movie’s extreme crappiness. I also feel like I need to mention that STs cast contains about 50 current and former “comedians” from Saturday Night Live attempting dramatic roles. That should do it right there.

I had to do something to renew my faith in cinema, so I popped in the copy of Mahogany I also rented. Now THAT is what I call awesome! Diana Ross, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Perkins star in this tale of 1970’s fashion and fame. Check out this amazing trailer!

So the moral of my post is… rent Mahogany and for the love of god, take Southland Tales off of your Netflix!
